After several years of anxiously waiting, the Syrian Al Fares family - Fares, Hiba, Hamza, Seba, and Safa -finally arrived in Toronto on March 25 to be reunited with other family members. Church of the Ascension agreed to help with this sponsorship after the original sponsorship group dissolved and we are very excited to be part of this new beginning.
The family is staying, at the moment, with Fares’ sister, Rehab, but are in the process of looking for an apartment, preferably in the Oshawa area. Ideally it would be 3 bedrooms (although 2 would be fine if there were a basement) and at a cost of approximately $2200 per month. Perhaps someone has connections and would be able to help with this.
They will also be looking for household goods, from beds to tables, pots and pans, linens etc. If you have something in good condition that you think might be helpful in setting up a new home let us (Susan Van Tijn/ Outreach committee) know. We don’t want to thrust anything on them but would like to be able to offer items they can select for themselves.
