Updates for World Day of Prayer March 5, 2021
Friday March 5 is the official World Day of Prayer! It is coming up fast! The WICC - Women’s Inter-Church Council of Canada, has been working hard to prepare for the challenges of WDP 2021. This year’s theme is “Build on a Strong Foundation”.
Vanuatu is an archipelago in the South Pacific. Juliette Pita’s artwork depicts a mother praying and sheltering her child under a tree with strong roots during a cyclone. The service was written by the Vanuatu World Day of Prayer Committee.
A pre-recorded service is available on YouTube. Click Here for the Link
A link can be found on the WICC website. It can be watched on the official WDP Friday, March 5 or any day and time. The service is also available on Rogers TV 8:30 am Fri. March 5.
Donate to WICC | Big or small, one time or legacy donations, we need your support at WICC in support of WICC social justice projects.
Chocolate coconut mug cake - a tasty treat to enjoy while watching World Day of Prayer services 2021 - VanuatuThank you to Nancy Weir, WICC office administrator, for providing and testing this recipe. While most of us are unable to gather in person and enjoy the often traditional after service refreshment time, we can create a lovely treat to try while watching the YouTube or local Rogers broadcasts of World Day of Prayer 2021 Vanuatu, at home.
Chocolate Coconut Mug Cake (cocoa and coconut are grown in Vanuatu)
1 egg
1 tablespoon milk, almond milk or coconut milk
2 tablespoons vegetable oil, melted butter or melted margarine
¼ teaspoon vanilla
¼ cup all-purpose flour (or ¼ cup gluten free ‘flour’)
¼ cup sugar
3 tablespoons cocoa powder
¼ teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons coconut
In a large mug, thoroughly beat the egg with a fork. Add the milk, oil (or butter or margarine) and vanilla extract and mix well. Add the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, salt and coconut. Stir the dry ingredients together and then mix into the egg mixture until combined. Microwave for 60-90 seconds.
A toothpick inserted into the center should come out almost clean.
Egg Free Version: replace the egg and the milk with ¼ cup of water or milk. Not a fan of coconut? - you can leave it out.
I hope that you will be able to “join” us as we worship and learn globally with 2021’s World Day of Prayer. This year’s WDP will truly be a world-wide event.
