Several of us met with the newly arrived Syrian family this Thursday afternoon to assess what we can do to help them begin their new life in Canada. The family consists of the father, Fares, his wife, Hiba, his son Hamza (15 years old) and two daughters, Siba and Safa (13 and 10). They have just signed a lease for a basement apartment in Oshawa and are now looking for some furnishings. I have already had a few offers, which are very welcome, but I would like to include a more comprehensive list and see whether anyone can help. Linens should be new, but household items can be used but obviously in good condition. Please feel free to contact me with any ideas at 905-263-4620 or susan.van.tijn@gmail.com.
