We are continuing to witness the highest levels of human displacement in history, the horrors of war that cause mass displacement once again are dominating headlines out of Ukraine, but similar atrocities go by unnoticed.

At Ascension we we will be welcoming Jowairya Ghousi to our May 15th service to tell us a little about her quest to bring her sister, brother-in-law and their two children to Canada.  During the recent evacuation of Afghanistan despite going to the airport eight times in the company of Jowairya and her husband, Abdullah, who were returning to their home in Scarborough, they were not allowed on the plane and were quite traumatized by the brutality they encountered.
Sometimes we are overwhelmed by statistics.  First-hand accounts remind us that each refugee applicant has a unique story that deserves our attention.
